Cardioprotective effect of Malva verticillata against doxorubicin -induced toxicity in rats

Abstract Background M. verticillata (Malvaceae) is a medicinal plant used in the treatment of wounds, boils, and liver injuries. The leaf extracts possess anti-inflammatory antioxidant activities. Doxorubicin (DOX) potent chemotherapeutic agent various cancers, but its clinical use limited by acute chronic cardiotoxicity . This study aims to evaluate possible cardioprotective role Malva against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. Method Thirty-six male albino rats were divided into six groups, ( n = 6): G1: normal control (was given 1 ml/kg NaCl, 0.9%, twice week IP), G2: cardiotoxic group mg/kg DOX IP). G3 G4 250 500 verticillata, respectively, while G5 G6: 250, PO IP for 6 weeks. Total body weight was taken weekly Heart: ratio calculated. Blood samples collected determination serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatine phosphokinase (CPK) Troponin, hearts removed processed histopathological examination. Results showed significant dose-dependent reduction cardiac enzyme levels, LDH, CPK activities, Troponin levels. studies rat also supported those findings.
